FOUNDATION ARCA
Foundation ARCA has been founded on July 25th 2003 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The name ARCA is derived from Spanish ‘arte centroamericana’ (Central – American art). Two persons, who over years were actively involved in a small-scale development organisation dealing with projects in Nicaragua, have founded the Foundation. During these years they experienced the importance of art and culture for development in Central – America.
Objectives
The objectives of the foundation are:
To support cultural projects for the benefit of underprivileged in Central - America.
To support artists (of different disciplines) in Central-America, in particular in Nicaragua;
To create interest for different kinds of expression of Central-American culture, arts and crafts e.g. paintings, photos, ceramics and woodcarving in European countries;
To support minorities in their process of emancipation, in particular gays.
The activities of the Foundation are:
To make and maintain contact with (groups of) persons in Central – America to develop with them social – cultural projects for street children and other underprivileged children
To make and maintain contact with (groups of) artists in Central – America;
To make contact with cultural organisations, institutes and commissions, local, regional and provincial cultural departments and so on in European countries and if possible elsewhere:
To organise information meetings;
To organise cultural exchange of artists
To organise discussions about homosexuality.
The fundraising will be done by:
Obtaining donations;
Fulfilling information activities.

A.M.Th. Horstink, president
Anny Horstink studied Social and Cultural Anthropology and Spanish. During 20 years she has been working as an adviser in an institute dealing with multicultural problems. Over ten year she was actively involved in cultural activities of a city-link organisation with a city in Nicaragua (Central - America). During that time she visited several times Nicaragua and got acquainted with Nicaraguan culture. She made contact with several groups of artists.
Dr. R.A.M. Heijne, Director
Rien Heijne studied philosophy and works as an educational expert in a Dutch University of Professional Education. From 1992 till 2002 he was president of a city-link organisation with a city in Nicaragua. During this period he visited several times Nicaragua. He knows the social-economic and cultural situation in Nicaragua quite well.
